The Government has decided to revoke the Bread Ordinance No. 13 of 1864 which was enacted to regulate the sale of bread and to prevent the mixing of adulterated flour with bread offered for sale.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Trade, Commerce and Food Safety Minister Nalin Fernando to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare legislation to repeal the Act.

In the implementation of the provisions of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 9 of 2003, some issues arise with certain provisions of the Ordinance and it is identified that it is no longer necessary to implement the said Ordinance, the proposal presented by the Trade, Commerce and Food Safety Minister explained.
