Ministers required to submit weekly reports to president

State Minister of Postal Services and Journalism Sathasivam Viyalendran says that all ministers including himself are required to submit a weekly report to the president on the institutions they are overseeing.

He said this while inspecting the Batticaloa main post office.

He added that Sri Lanka Post incurred a loss of around Rs. 5,000 million in 2019 and that it was learnt that 70% - 80% of the Postal Department's revenue is spent on salaries and overtime payments.

Noting that a five-year plan from 2021-2025 to develop Sri Lanka Post has already been submitted on a department level, the state minister said that he had already studied it and soon intended to discuss the matter with heads at the ministry and departments.

"I hope to visit all the districts of the country and look into the shortcomings of the post offices and issues faced by employees in each district. Also, on every Wednesday, anyone can meet me from 7.00am as I will be present at the ministry," he said.
