The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) have been instructed to continue fuel deliveries on Saturday and Sunday this week.
Taking to Twitter, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera stated that the measure has been taken to ensure the supply of sufficient stocks to all fuel stations.
He further stated that the CPC and CPSTL have not been operating on Sundays and Public holidays in the last 4 months in order to reduce expenses on overtime.
Minister Wijesekera also revealed that fuel shortage has been observed at several fuel stations at present due to the non-placement of orders by fuel stations from last Saturday anticipating a price reduction during the recent price revision.
“The lack of maintaining minimum stocks at fuel stations, the immediate increase in demand by consumers after the price revision, and the increase in fuel quota have also contributed to the fuel shortage,” the Minister added.
