Time period extended for e-vehicle permit scheme

The Cabinet has approved the extension of the time period to grant permits to Sri Lankans employed abroad to import electric vehicles.

Under this scheme, the import of electric vehicles was based on the amount of foreign exchange remitted to the country by expatriate workers during the period from 01-05-2022 to 31-12-2022.
 

However, as it has been found that they will not be able to import the expected electric vehicle based on the amount of foreign exchange remitted during that period, the Cabinet has approved the extension of the time period to 15-09-2023.
