COLOMBO (News 1st); Death-row inmates at the Mahara and Welikada prisons are on a hunger strike. Prisons Spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake speaking to News 1st said the hunger strike was launched by the inmates demanding their death sentences be commuted to life in prison, with effect from the day that they were sentenced.
