The United National Party (UNP), which is currently divided into two fractions,is reportedly willing to contest as one group in the event of a Supreme Court ruling that the recently announced general election is unconstitutional.
Former UNP MPs who had handed their nominations for the general election as the UNP and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have exchanged views about contesting as one party, the "Anidda" newspaper said.
The two sides are already working together on common issues, it said.
It is said that a group of contestants, who had submitted nominations under two different parties, have worked together regarding remanding Rajitha Senaratne.
In addition, representatives of both parties have together discussed several incidents of human rights violations during the curfew.
