Rishad files FR petition to prevent his arrest

Former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen has filed a Fundamental Rights petition before the Supreme Court, calling for an order to prevent his arrest by the Criminal Investigations Department.

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the CID, Director of the CID and the Attorney General has been cited as respondents in the petition.
The petitioner, former Minister Bathiudeen claims that the CID has launched investigations to arrest him on charges that he provided state services transport to voters during the timeframe leading up to the 2019 Presidential Election.

Rishad Bathiudeen in his petition stressed that he has no links to such an incident, while charging that the CID therefore intends to arrest him on malicious grounds.

Accordingly the former Minister claimed that his Fundamental Rights are now threatened, and called for the Supreme Court to issue an interim order preventing his arrest, until the petition is taken up for hearing and a final decision is reached in court.
