Sajin Vass to contest the 2020 General Election

The Colombo High Court yesterday permitted former UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardenaheld in remand custody to hand over nominations to contest the April General election.


The Colombo High Court ordered to remand former UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena till March 12 over the alleged intimidation of witnesses in a money laundering case.

When the case was taken up through a motion before the Colombo High Court judge Gihan Kulathunga, Attorney Jeewantha Jayathilake appearing for MP Vass Gunawardena sought court permission that his client be permitted to hand over nominations to contest the next General Election between March 12 and 19.

Accordingly, the High Court Judge ordered Prison authorities to take necessary action to allow MP Gunawardena to sign the nomination papers and hand over relevant documents to the Election Commission.

The case will be taken up again for further trial on March 12.
