Investigations on financial crimes over Sajith commenced!

Investigations on financial crimes over former minister of housing, construction and cultural affairs deputy leader of United National Party Sajith Premadasa have been commenced, reports disclosed. 

The probing is conducted following complaints received that state funds have been misappropriated during Mr. Sajith Premadasa's tenure as minister of housing, construction and cultural affairs from the Central Cultural Fund. 

Addressing a press briefing convened by State Minister of Housing Indika Anuruddha yesterday (14), MP Namal Rajapaksa disclosed that Rs. 480 million had been spent on salaries, however only an amount of Rs. 350 million had been spent on building houses. 

337 Uda Gammana housing villages had been commenced in the Hambantota District alone, whilst only 84 of them had been finished and handed over to the citizens, the press briefing disclosed.  

15 housing villages had been distributed to people in 2015. In 2016, 77 commenced, with only 49 of them finished. In 2017, 50 commenced, finishing only 8. In 2018, 104 commenced, finishing only 15. 

Funds are required for the completion of these housing projects, officials stated, and a special attention was focused into element which commencing new housing projects each year while leaving many unfinished projects behind was significant.  

Accordingly, revelations being unveiled that many irregularities were occurred during Mr. Sajith Premadasa's tenure as the housing minister, the above investigations have been launched.
