Almost 200,000 state officials on election duty

The Election Commission has deployed around 200,000 state sector officers for election duty at polling booths and counting centers for the 2019 presidential election, said the Deputy Election Commissioner J.A.S.P. Jayasinghe.


For counting of votes 48,000 state sector officials are to be deployed, while another 98,000 state sector officials are to be deployed for polling center duties.

Further, 10,000 officials are to be deployed for welfare and transport committees etc, while a 10,000 official pool is also in effect.

The Deputy Election Commissioner said that additional staff would be deployed for polls counting based on the requirement, adding that currently state sector officers are currently being deployed for election duties.

The Election Commission also stated that the training of these officers for election duties has already commenced.
