Sri Lanka’s former test, ODI and Twenty20 captain Dinesh Chandimal, has been enlisted to join the Army as a Commissioned Officer.
Chandimal who so far played for NCC will represent the Army Cricket Team from now on. According to military sources, there are around 350 cricketers under the Sri Lanka Army.
He is to be enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force as a Commissioned Officer of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps and would be required to wear the military uniform at times and would have to undergo military training.
Chandimal has played 146 ODIs and scored 3599 runs, having played 53 test matches and scored 3768 runs. He has also participated in 54 Twenty20 matches and scored 800 runs so far.
There is speculation that another active cricketer is also planning on joining the Army at present.
