Premier admits Intel units had warned of an attack


In a special statement, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had noted that although intelligence units had provided information on a possible attack, adequate precautions were not taken to prevent it.

Noting that further investigations on this should be held, he added that he and the ministers were not informed of this as well.

While noting that international leaders had reached out to extend their assistance to Sri Lanka, the Premier stated that assistance will be required to ascertain if the terrorists responsible for the attacks received help from overseas. 

He also said that the Police would release details of the persons responsible for the attack following their investigations it is time to remain unied as Sri Lankans and work to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country.

The 8 explosions that rocked the country have claimed the lives of around 200 including foreign nationals and injured around 400 more, he further said.
