Sources add that the president will also inform the IGP to resign and is to inform of this at the Cabinet meeting which will take place at 8.30am local time today.

Addressing the nation yesterday, president Maithripala Sirisena said that there will be a change in top security brass in the country.

Failed responsibilities

Addressing the cabinet meeting on April 22, the president had openly accused that the defence secretary and the IGP had failed in their responsibilities.

He had further rebuked them for not informing himself or the PM of the prewarnings made by intelligence units with regard to the Easter Sunday bombings.

Meanwhile, a statement made by Mr. Fernando to international media too, had come under fire in several media briefings held yesterday.

Speaking to media, opposition leader - Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that he had urged Mr. Fernando not to make such statements.
