US$ 500 fine for visa overstay

COLOMBO (News 1st) – The government has decided to fine immigrants US$ 500 for remaining in the country without a visa. State Minister of Internal and Home affairs J. C. Alawathuwala noted that the Department of Immigration and Emigration has been provided with the authority to prepare regulations pertaining to the matter.

  1. It a huge amount who would want to disobey the rule now. I am wondering if they can pay the fine of $500 does it mean that they can continue to stay in us or after paying the fine they'll be deported.
