HOPE : Cancer hospital project by Sri Lanka Law College.

The Social Services League of Sri Lanka Law College is an organization formed with the objective of organizing and Implementing various projects for the benefit of the society, which will in turn helps build a stronger internal community at Law College by bringing together all law students irrespective of their differences for a common cause and thus promoting equality. We, at Social Services League believe that through these initiatives we will make an everlasting impact not only to the society but also to the life of students at Sri Lanka Law College.

Staying true to the objectives of The Social Services League, the ‘HOPE’ cancer project has been organized to help out, bring love and hope to the children affected and suffering with cancer. The ‘HOPE’ Cancer Project was initiated in the year 2017 by the Social Services League of Sri Lanka Law College with the motto that “kids can't fight cancer alone” in order to provide love and hope for those kids battling in between life and death.

The Cancer Hospital, Maharagama comprises of 4 children’s wards of an average of 150 children getting treated for all kinds of Cancer in all stages. Further, the project focuses on deviating the focus of these children from their disease and to give them a joyous time away from all the trauma, pain and suffering they are enduring at a tender age and also to further support them by providing study materials, medicines, hygiene products and other essential items which have been requested by the officials of the Cancer Hospital.

This year the project is scheduled to be held on the 15th of July 2018 at the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama with a participation of more than 150 students of Sri Lanka Law College from the Preliminary, Intermediate, Final and Apprenticeship Year .The project is usually carried out in two phases. The first phase of the project is a session involving the kids and the students of Sri Lanka Law College in a variety of fun-filled interactive activities like singing, dancing, drawing, story-telling etc. which brings them with the much needed laughter and cheer they have been lacking in their monotonous life at the hospital. Following the activities, the members of the Social Services League engage in the distribution of essential materials required and requested by the children’s wards which were donated and collected through the fundraising held in the name of this project. The second phase of ‘HOPE’ is aimed at refurbishing the Kids Play Area of the Cancer Hospital as requested by the management.

Through all these, we believe that this project will not only give love and hope to these kids but will also encourage more of the youth to get involved in valuable initiatives of this nature to ultimately make the world a better place. It should be noted that the Visit to the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama and the day spent with these kids, who are fighters, going through the worst days of their lives, leaves a great impact on the budding law students of Sri Lanka Law College as we believe that they had managed to bring some light, a ray of hope and more importantly smiles to these young fighters’ lives.
