Ranil demands report on Sajith's campaign debts

The United National Party (UNP) has decided to inform presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa to submit a report on how a staggering sum of Rs. 90 million was owed as debts after  his presidential campaign.

This decision was taken at a meeting chaired by party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

It is said that some businessmen involved in the campaign have met Mr. Wickremesinghe from time to time, complaining that they were financially ruined after not receiving their dues.

Accordingly, the party has decided to obtain a detailed report on how such a mountain of debt was accumulated.

After the presidential election, Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa said he was in a debt of Rs. 90 million due to the campaign while top officials involved in the campaign pointed fingers at each other.

Meanwhile, it is also reported that five persons including a relative of Mr. Premadasa have been accused of misappropriating funds received for the election campaign.
